Skin is the largest and most sensitive organ of the body. It demands a lot of care right from day to night and vice versa. As a dermatologist, I see people complaining of rough and dry skin. It’s all because they don’t care for their skin properly.
This article discusses different skincare products that will be used to make your skin bright, blemish-free, and free from any ailment. Furthermore, we can learn the various methods to use expensive skincare products correctly.
Why is having a good skincare routine important?
Skin diseases, if left untreated, can lead to other body organ infections.
It can also lead to anxiety and depression because thinking about skin all the time can make you suffer from mental issues.
Many people buy many skincare products and don’t even know how to use them. Improper use of skin care products is also hazardous to the skin.
Most people don’t even give a single wash to the skin and keep applying heavy makeup over the skin.
Unfortunately, it remains unnoticed until the person develops some severe deleterious complications.
What should you include in building your skincare routine?
The following routine should be adopted to have a good skincare routine.
Clean water face wash
The foremost and first step in building your skincare routine is washing your face. Many dermatologists recommend the use of lukewarm water. To me, washing the face is more important than deciding the temperature of the water. Adequately wash your face. The aim of it is to remove the dirt from the skin.
Many people used to ask the question: can we use rose water instead of ordinary tap water in washing our face? Yes, it can be used but is usually not recommended because it is costly and doesn’t make much difference.
Cleansing the face
The next step in having a good skincare routine is the cleansing of the face. Many people never adopt sanctification because of the fear of scrubbing the skin. Many people also have concerns that these cleansers are very costly and they add up to their living expenses.
I recommend store-bought, gentle cleansers that are also affordable.
It removes the dirt and creates a clean, dirtless, and healthy look for your skin. It is advised not to rub the cleanser hard and use as much water to make it thin.
After removing the hazardous dirt from the skin, it is time to nourish the skin using different serums. Many people are unaware of the serums. Serums are the core skincare products that nourish your skin. The following serums should be used:
- Vitamin C is available in the form of serums. It is an antioxidant and nourishes your skin. It also has hydrating properties and gives fresh furnish to your skin. It is readily available in the market and should be used in the morning and before sleeping.
- Glycolic acid is another serum available and plays a vital role in revitalizing our skin. It should be used twice a day.
- Hyaluronic acid is a miraculous agent enriched in collagen and plays a crucial role in strengthening the skin.
One thing that should be kept in mind while using serums is that they should be used gently and don’t rub hard.
Toners also play an essential role in stabilizing the pH of the skin. Toners are generally more useful for females than males. Toners make a thin layer below the makeup and prevent the skin from the hazardous effects of cosmetics.
It is advised that you always use toner below the makeup. It not only protects the skin from makeup effects but also prevents excessive sebum production. I usually ask to recommend my clients buy the toner of their own choice – but from safe, dermatological brands.
Are they discussing the critical components in building the skincare routine and forgetting them moisturizers? Not possible. Moisturizers are skincare products that moisturize the skin. They are essential in keeping the skin fresh. Furthermore, they have protective qualities too.
I recommend my clients to use Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream.
It is easy to use and available worldwide. Always apply the moisturizer three times a day or when you are feeling dryness in the skin.
Sunscreen imparts a significant impact in protecting your skin against harmful UV rays. Always use sunscreen when going out in the sun. I recommend my patients use SPF 50 sunscreens.
The technique to apply sunscreen is also essential. It should be applied 30 minutes before going out into the sun.
Apply it gently over the face, and don’t rub it too hard. Repeat the application after every three hours because it loses its effects in two to three hours.
If you are going to the beach, then don’t forget to protect your head from UV rays and saltwater which is bad for your hair. Keep in mind these tips and you won’t have to go for a hair transplant anytime soon.
Many people do experience different skin conditions and ailments. Among them, acne is the most common, and we usually prescribe adapalene to the patients.
It is advised that the patient should use it at night and don’t come in the sun as it can cause a burn to your skin. Skin ointments should be applied at night before sleeping, and it is advised not to go out after using them.
The area below the eyes is the most sensitive area of the face. It is vulnerable to dark spots and different ultraviolet radiations. We often see people having immense black circles around their eyes.
It all happens when do not care for the area around the eyes. It is a dermatologist’s advice to apply eye creams to that area. Place two to three spots of the eye cream on your palm and then apply it over the area.
Retinoids are vitamin A derivatives that should be applied to the skin regularly. They have anti-inflammatory, anti-darkening, and properties that reduce blemishes. It is advised to use them wisely as people who use such Vitamin A derivatives should avoid the sun at every cost.
If you are using such products, always use good quality sunscreen before going out in sun. Regular use of retinoids prevents summer acne flares, blackheads, and skin blemishes.
Bonus entry: A good diet
A healthy diet is also essential in building a skincare routine. Skin is highly enriched in blood vessels that supply nutrients to the skin.
Eating a diet rich in vitamins, minerals and oils can make your skin fresh and prevent it from wrinkles and blemishes. Furthermore, people who have a good diet do suffer less likely from deleterious skin problems.
When should you consult a dermatologist or a doctor?
If your skin problems do not improve with over-the-counter treatments, you should consult a dermatologist.
Prescription therapy for more severe acne, scarring, or other issues may be required, such as oral antibiotics, birth control, or topical prescription retinoids.
For deeper cysts or acne patches trapped beneath your skin, your dermatologist may conduct an extraction.
Keep in mind that the way skin functions depend on your skin type. Even when using a natural product, the wrong one might cause breakouts, pimples, and redness. It’s essential to figure out your skin type and tailor your skincare routine accordingly.
